Garthoff is a Texas based landscape architecture firm specializing in the design of meaningful spaces where people live, work, learn and thrive.
Formed in 2006, our practice is guided by the simple principles of honest, restrained design aesthetic, authentic materials and regional practices, and collaboration with talented clients and project teams in the pursuit of the best ideas.
Our team of landscape architects has over 100 years of combined professional experience, with projects ranging from international resorts to intimate garden spaces, and everything in between. We bring a personalized, principal-involved approach to every project, and understand the dedication and attention to detail required to deliver great projects from concept to construction.
We believe in the impact of landscape architecture on the successful built environment, and envision our work as an opportunity to blend architecture with site, elevating the experience of those who interact with these spaces. Working with talented design teams and visionary clients, we focus primarily on site-specific institutional, community and residential projects that promote memorable experience and contribute to the built environment.
Firm Leadership
Shane Garthoff
Shane Garthoff provides design leadership for GARTHOFF, with an emphasis on minimalist aesthetic, regional typologies and use of raw and honest material expression. His work employs stark geometries and an understated layering and understanding of site and architecture, to create enduring, human-scaled spaces. He enjoys all things outdoors, including off-grid adventure and travel with family.
Allison Garthoff
Inspired by rural life experience, Allison Garthoff brings a depth of understanding of natural systems and sustainable design practices to her work at GARTHOFF. She uses passive and environmentally responsible design strategies to create meaningful, intuitive outdoor spaces. Sparked by a life-changing study abroad experience while at Texas A&M, Allison enjoys travel, food and architectural photography.
Kathy Wisdom
Kathy Wisdom serves as project manager for GARTHOFF, bringing a depth of knowledge and experience to all phases of design and construction. She enjoys deep collaboration with design and construction teams, with the goal to deliver detail-oriented, comprehensively designed built projects. She is a beekeeper and lover of all things (most things) furry.
Shelly Line
As project designer for GARTHOFF, Shelly Line is drawn to the problem-solving side of design. From intimate garden spaces to large-scale developments, she enjoys developing big ideas into beautiful and functional built environments. With an emphasis on diverse planting design and tactile materiality, she brings a personal warmth and proportion to projects. When not designing the next great landscape, Shelly enjoys cooking and gardening.
